Jermaine Nolen is a multidisciplinary contemporary American artist based in Chicago, IL
Jermaine Nolen is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Auburn Gresham on Chicago’s South Side. His work—spanning visual art, writing, and design—is grounded in a deep connection to his community and the legacy of his ancestors.
Through his creative practice, Jermaine explores the intersection of color theory and minimalism, working primarily with acrylic paint on stretched canvas and poetry. Influenced by the minimalist painters of the 1960s and the emotional resonance of abstract expressionism, his work encourages viewers to slow down, look closer, and reexamine their perceptions.
Using a restrained color palette and deliberate composition, Jermaine creates a sense of spatial ambiguity, where foreground and background shift and blend. These subtle dynamics invite reflection, drawing attention to the ways we interpret space and meaning.
His poetry runs in parallel with his visual art, adding another dimension to the work. Together, language and image form a dialogue—one that balances stillness with movement, simplicity with complexity. Through this interplay, Jermaine creates immersive experiences that invite personal connection and emotional depth.
